03What we built
The Goal
The intervention
JBottoms approached Cognito Systems with a vision to redefine digital retail for modern African fashion. The objective was to design and engineer a robust, scalable e-commerce platform that could: Showcase high-impact product imagery and brand storytelling. Support custom size requests and flexible fulfillment workflows. Enable international sales, with seamless checkout and shipping integration. Deliver an intuitive, mobile-first experience optimized for discovery and conversion. The client sought a digital storefront that could scale from a boutique startup into a global fashion label, without the technical debt often associated with rapid growth.
04What was broken
The Challenge
The situation we found
While the creative direction was strong, the existing operations were fragmented: No centralized product management system — inventory updates were manual and error-prone. Sizing and customization logic required dynamic validation to handle made-to-measure items. Cross-border commerce constraints — currency conversion, shipping APIs, and payment gateways varied by region. Performance optimization — high-resolution visuals caused load-time inefficiencies on mobile networks common in emerging markets. Cognito Systems' task was to architect a high-performance, cloud-native commerce platform with robust automation, ensuring minimal downtime and high scalability for traffic spikes driven by influencer campaigns.
05What changed
The Result
Measured after launch
Cognito Systems delivered a full-stack solution from requirements discovery through deployment: Platform Architecture: Built on React for client-side rendering with serverless Vercel deployment, ensuring ultra-fast page delivery and global CDN caching. CMS & Commerce Layer: Integrated with Retool for product, order, and inventory management, allowing non-technical staff to manage catalog content independently. Custom Features: Intelligent size & fit recommendation engine with fabric stretch metadata. Dynamic pricing module for promotions and international pricing. Automated workflow for fulfillment notifications and order tracking. Performance Outcomes: 2.1s average mobile load time (68% faster than the previous baseline). 35% increase in conversion within 60 days post-launch. 100% Lighthouse accessibility compliance.
06What it runs on
And what we still hold
Cognito did not hand this over and leave. The system is still ours to run, and the numbers above are still ours to keep.
